In 1642, during Venice’s carnival season, Claudio Monteverdi composed a new opera.

Despite holding the post of maestro di cappella and being responsible for sacred music, he chose a historical story steeped in intrigue, debauchery and manipulation. Sabina Poppea has already won Emperor Nero’s love, but to ascend the throne as Empress of Rome she must eliminate everyone who stands in her way.
